A large lacquered wood valet tray by Hermes, France, circa 2000
A rare and unusual valet tray by Hermes, France, made around the turn of the century. That’s unusual about it is the size, measuring a ……massive Xcm wide and Xcm deep, it really…. is an impressive tray. Sometimes referred to as a “vide-poche“ (or literally translated: pocket emptier) or key valet tray or even change tray, these items are meant to be functional and multi-purpose. This particular example has a geometric pattern on a blue background with a characteristically Hermes leather tab to one side. It is made out of wood, hand painted and heavily lacquered. To the underside and impressed mark saying “Hermes, paint main” (hand painted, all with its original box.
