A superb leather chesterfield sofa made in England in the first half of the 20th century. One of the most elegant models with button down seating, this is a fashionable item of furniture capable of uplifting the interior space of any contemporary or traditional home, the classic colour combining refined elegance and taste. This particular sofa has a lovely patina, the brownish colour with discolouration throughout just adds to its charm.
Chesterfield sofas describe a deep buttoned sofa, usually made from leather, where the arms and back of the same height. The first Chesterfield, with its distinctive deep buttoned, quilted leather upholstery and lower seat base, was commissioned by Philip Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield (1694–1773). This historic item of furniture has adorned our homes for centuries now, yet they are still able to elevate any interior and are as popular today as they have ever been.
Condition: very good condition. Wear and discolouration throughout but no tears or holes to the leather. Hessian bottom has been restored as the old one was torn. Please refer to photographs
