A Gainsborough style armchair, England mid 20th century
The Gainsborough chair (also known as a Martha Washington chair in the Unites States) is a type of armchair made in England during the eighteenth century. The chair was wide, with a high back, open sides and short arms, and was normally upholstered in leather. This is a wonderful mid 20th century version, unholstered in green leather with brass stud-work along the edges. Over the years the leather and woodwork has taken a beautiful patina. It presents a comfortable and versatile seating solution which would look fantastic in any office, library, study or traditional home, looking equally at ease in a modern setting.
Condition: excellent, wear and tear consistent with use. One brass stud lacking from the front edge of the chair, please refer to photographs.
Dimensions: 99cm high, 62cm wide, 58cm deep, seat height: 44cm
