A "fazzoletto" floor lamp by La Murrina made in Venice, Italy, late 20th century
An elegant “fazzoletto“ floor lamp made by the world renowned glass makers La Murrina. This work of art was realised by the very best maestros in Murano, Venice. It is difficult to overstate the difficulty in realising this lamp which is to be considered more of a work of art than an item for illumination. It consists of a piece of glass, realised entirely by hand, decorated with delicate clear bubbles and opalescent details repeated throughout the the glass shade. The delicate shade itself is supported by a satin finish brass stand which is perfectly proportioned to the shade.
Fazzoletto in Italian means handkerchief and it is admirable how the maestro is able to create the feeling of draped glass. A stunning work of art that looks fantastic in any interior design setting, whether traditional, mid century or modern.
La Murrina is a company that dates back to the 1960s in Murano where there was a small furnace managed by a group of glass-worker masters. The company started realising prestigious objects in blown glass created by the owners of the furnace. In 1974, the property of the furnace came under the control of a family from Milan, who already produced items for lighting in glass and metal. Hence, the company started to be managed as a corporation. “La Murrina” trademark was registered all around the world and its collections started to spread worldwide. In 2000, La Murrina had its first collaborations with famous designers and architects who extended the production with their contemporary design collection realised in accordance with old glass blowing techniques.
