A pair of Art Deco inspired sideboards by Julian Chichester, England, late 20th century
A lovely pair of Art Deco inspired sideboards, by Julian Chichester, London. Made in the latter part of the last century, veneered in faux shagreen. These imposing and elegant sideboards would look wonderful in any living room, hallway of bedroom. Being quite narrow, they offer a perfect solution for decorating a space whilst also being functional. Shagreen is an exotic shark skin often used on Art Deco furniture of the 1930s, highly prized today.
Julian Chichester is a high end furniture designer who started out as an antiques dealer selling furniture from his shop in Portobello Road, London which he imported from the Far East. His designs are inspired by antique furniture and this can be seen clearly in these shagreen sideboards. Today his furniture is loved and admired by the interior design community and is showcased in houses, apartments, hotels, restaurants and cruise ships around the world. Brands include Rocco Forte, Soho House, The Pigs, Wardorf Astoria and Marriott’s to name but a few.
