An Arne Jacobsen style egg chair, European manufacture, circa 1970
A stylish Egg chair in the style of Arne Jacobsen, dating from the 1970s. Upholstered in a rich ochre fabric, this striking piece sits atop a sleek chromed metal cross-frame base, featuring a tilting mechanism for added comfort. The chair also includes a removable seat cushion, enhancing both its practicality and luxurious appeal. With its sculptural form and design, this chair makes a bold statement in any interior, blending style and sophistication.
The original Egg chair was designed in 1958 by the renowned Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen for the lobby and reception areas of the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. A pioneer of modernist Scandinavian design, Jacobsen was celebrated for his ability to merge functionality with organic, sculptural forms. His work, deeply rooted in Danish craftsmanship and influenced by the Bauhaus movement, helped define mid-century modern aesthetics. The Egg chair remains one of his most iconic creations, admired for its enveloping form and ergonomic comfort, making it a coveted design classic even decades after its inception.
Condition: good overall vintage condition, fabric dirty in parts but nothing significant. Unsure how the tilting mechanism works, we believe the lever stiffens the tilting mechanism. Swivel movement works perfectly. Please refer to photographs.
Dimensions: 88cm wide, 114cm high, 65cm deep, seat height 41cm
