An antique 19th Century Victorian Solid Silver trophy cup and cover, richly gilt, large, heavy and highly decorative, the baluster form body with cast handles with mask junctions, the tall neck supporting a cover surmounted by a cast finial modelled as a running horse, the body is chased in relief with running horses, the whole body also chased with a scrolling foliage and armorials on a matted ground. The cup is exceptionally crisp, it sits on an ebonized plinth with a silver plaque bearing the original inscription "Horse Show Agricultural Hall Cup 1875, "Talisman" Best of the Four 1st Prize Hunters, won by J. M. Tattersall Musgram Esq., Chairman R. Leeds, Mamager S. Sidney". The plaque is Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1874 (t), Maker's mark Samuel Whitford. Each part is original and Hallmarked English silver (925 Standard), London, year 1865 (k), Maker's mark DHCH (Daniel & Charles Houle). The commissioned finial is also Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, Maker's mark SS for Goldsmith Alliance Ltd.
