A gorgeous pair of antique Georgian Old Sheffield plated wine coolers, with cast borders, cast handles, and an applied flowers and leaf bands running round the body. All with original interior and cover. Made in circa 1825, the applied silver cartouche bearing the coat of arms of the Abel Smith family, with the Latin motto Steadfast in the faith (Tenax in Fide). The elephant's head with three blue Fleur-de-Lys on the shoulder is also the Coat-of-Arms for the Royal New South Wales Lancers (Cavalry). Quite possibly these coolers were the marriage gift simbolising the union of two noble families British families.
Condition: some “bleeding“ to some of the high points where the copper is showing through, otherwise perfect
