Antique 19th Century rare Victorian silver plated electrotype model of the Milton Shield, of oval form, decorated with scenes from John Milton's poem "Paradise Lost", the central circular panel representing the Archangel Raphael with Adam and Eve, the other panels depicting the conflict between heaven and hell, mounted on a ebonized panel.

The reverse of the panel bearing the original tag with information on the Milton shield.

The shield bears the signature "Leonard Morel-Ladeuil Fecit 1866", and "Elkington & Co". The shield is a Victorian replica of the original made by the sculptor Leonard Morel-Ladeuil for the company Elkington & Co. The original, in silver and iron, was made for the 1867 exhibition and took three years to produce. It won a gold medal for the artist and was bought by the Victoria & Albert museum where it remains in exhibition.

Condition: No damage, just general wear at the high points of the shield.
