A carafe and 6 glasses by Carlo Scarpa for Venini, Venice, Italy, circa 1940
A carafe and 6 glasses by Carlo Scarpa for Venini, Venice, Italy, circa 1940
An elegant set consisting of a hexagonal carafe and six tumblers in clear glass with the rims decorated in sky blue. Incredibly light, these glasses have the thickness of an eggshell. The technique for blowing these glasses by hand is extremely difficult due to the thickness (or rather, thinness) of the glass. The “pontil mark” on the bottom proves the glasses were handmade, and when they are held in the hand they are genuinely as light as a feather.
