A hammered effect wine bottle holder in silver plate by Mappin & Webb, England, circa 1930
A lovely wine bottle holder in silver plate, made in the first half of the 20th century in England and retailed by the famous jeweller Mappin and Webb. It is made to house a bittle in the shape of the modern Champagne or Prosecco with the narrow neck. The wonderful hammered effect finish, sometimes referred to as martele’ (French word for hammered), gives this special item a modern feel whilst retaining the vintage touch, so characteristic of designs of the period. As relevant today as it was then, it makes a fantastic conversation piece and wonderful as part of a collection of barware in the modern home. Marked to the underside.
