A massive silver plated rose bowl by James Dixon and Sons, England, late 20th century
A huge silver plated Rose Bowl made in Sheffield, England by the famous makers James Dixon and Sons. Its majestic dimensions are capable of serving as a massive punchbowl, as a champagne or wine bucket for multiple bottles, or even just as a centrepiece for flowers or pot pourri.
James Dixon and Sons was founded 1806 in Sheffield and was one of the major British manufacturers of the Industrial Revolution. They were manufacturers of pewterware, electroplated Britannia metal, silverware and electroplated nickel silver. The firm continued to be a family run enterprise until 1976. The patterns are currently owned by another Sheffield firm who export products mainly to the Middle East.
