A beautiful Indian leopard skin rug, (scientific name: Panthera pardus pardus), circa 1890-1910, attributed to Theobald Bros, Mysore, India, with snarling open-mouthed head mount, glass eyes, backed on to typical period canvas backing, with red felt serrated border. Little is known about the history of Theobald Brothers other than along with Van Ingen & Van Ingen, they created some of the finest taxidermy to come out of India during the colonial era. Their services were very sought after among the 'big game tourists' of the time & their work can be found in museums the world over.
Condition: some wear on the high spots, some claws missing, otherwise in excellent condition especially considering age.
