An extremely rare motoring or car trunk dating to the earliest part of the 20th century. Car trunks were usually bespoke made for the owner’s car and would ordinarily be positioned inside the boot of the vehicle or strapped to the back of the vehicle. As such, no two are the same, each one with slight variations. This one is particularly large, complete with all its hardware and rivets stamped Louis Vuitton, what makes this trunk particularly special is the covering canvas. Usually it is black Vuittonite, sometimes red/burgundy and occasionally even green, but to have the custom ordered trunk be covered in the world famous monogram canvas is particularly rare. We can recognise it is a motoring trunk from the latches alone which are long but there are other small quirks which differentiate it from the more common black Vuittonite siblings such as the banding which is also covered in monogram and the absence of wooden slats. Small alterations that made it more waterproof compared to a standard cabin trunk. Today it will make for a great coffee table could also be placed in a corner of a room as a side table or at the foot of the bed to store blankets. It’s a wonderful conversation piece, very elegant and extremely rare.
Condition: slight buckling to one of the side catches but almost imperceptible, otherwise excellent
Dimensions: 93cm wide, 31cm high, 55cm deep
