Moynat was one of the very first leather goods houses of its day. Known for its traditional know-how and skills base in handcrafting made-to-order luggage and travel goods, the house became famous for its designs for the automobile industry, as well as for its technical innovations such as making its trunks lighter and waterproof, and for its notable participation in the various World’s Fairs. Moynat was a competitor to some of the biggest trunk makers (most notably Vuitton and Goyard) and there is no denying its quality when you look at pieces like this exceptionally made early 20th century crocodile skin suitcase fitted with all the wants and needs for the gentleman of the time. Some particulars of note: reinforced crocodile leather corners, protective canvas case, fitted interior with hallmarked silver mounted fittings, all French hallmarked silver (with the Minerva head). This has to be one of the finest examples of Moynat craftsmanship to ever come on the market.
