A huge mid century drinks trolley by Fondart, Spain, circa 1980
A huge mid century drinks trolley made by Fondart in Spain in the early 1980s. This Hollywood Regency drinks trolley is on four ball castors, the brass and hardwood structure supporting three thick glass shelves. A practical solution also as a food cart, stands at an impressive 100cm in width and 74cm in height, making it a striking piece of furniture of great proportions that would look fantastic in a lounge area, bar area, or dining room.
Fondart is a Spanish firm which started production in the late 1970s making quality furnishings like drinks trolleys, coffee tables, magazine racks and side tables. Most were realised in mahogany and brass, always with a Hollywood Regency look which was so fashionable at the time and that has returned en vogue today. The predecessor to the company was founded by Manuel Angulo who moved from his native town of Madrid to Barcelona in 1945 to initiate the manufacture of high quality furniture and lamps to satisfy the wishes of the most demanding customers, setting up Maison Herraiz. However it was his son Armando Angulo, in alliance with a glass supplier, who created the Fondart brand, a trendsetter in decoration both nationally and internationally.
